About

I received a first Bachelor’s degree in “Science of Architecture”, then I obtained a Master’s degree in in “Architecture Construction and City”, both from the Polytechnic of Turin. Thanks to my academic studies and to the one-year Erasmus Programme experience at the UCL University in Louvain-la-Neuve, I consider my interdisciplinary education as a useful characteristic in terms of having a wider understanding of problems related to urban space, housing and planning. As last step of my studies, I had the opportunity to carry out my Master’s thesis in collaboration with CORC, NGO in Cape Town. During this experience I faced, for the first time, the dynamics of difference, inequality and marginality at architectural and planning level.

My Master’s thesis was an exercise to explore and see with my own eyes these new urban phenomena. It focused on slum upgrading, specifically on informal settlements in the township of Khayelitsha. The thesis was an attempt to investigate and propose an upgrading strategy for the townships in the municipality of Cape Town dealing with the informal settlements’s citizens, making them part of of the township transformation. I personally took part in the social development projects of the slum. I was involved in various activities such as meetings with the communities of the informal settlements.

I am currently expanding and improving my knowledge about the thematic of urban inequality, urban migration and flow of goods and resources in urbanized areas. I’m working as an architect and community builder with an NGO called L.V.I.A in the Isiolo County, Eastern Kenya. The chance to work everyday with different community, in different urban context, rural and not, gave me the opportunity to have a broader vision of how the migration shapes the city and transforms it.

C.O.R.C. (Community Organisation Resource Center), Cape Town, ZA, Urban designer, Graphic designer, Aid-worker

My experience as architect and urban planner in the Khayelitsha township and in Kenya as architect and community builder, helped me to develop an efficient and flexible workflow in a multicultural work environment. The research carried out in Southern and Eastern Africa at urban and community level, make me aware about the importance of a well urban development planning and gave me the motivation and the curiosity to apply for the civil-engineering design service of the Design Office and Patrimony (DOP) . I am sure this could be a great opportunity to sharpen my current education and to explore new paths for/in the Urban Study and society discipline.
