Today marks the glorious conclusion of our DIS studio projects!
Three weeks to research, design, and draw a harbor bath was a pretty intense timetable - but the effort everyone invested is well worth it in the end. It was also rewarding to work alongside a broad range of students from across the states - observing everyone's varying process, style, and technique was educational and inspiring.
Anyways, here's my project. [final plot, 2.5 MB]
So, after our pin-ups on Monday and Tuesday, we have a free week to enjoy Copenhagen! I'll be sure to clock plenty of biking and swimming time.
Later,

diving platform looks like fun!
cool
hey,
maybe you can give me insight. i'm trying to decide to go to copenhagen or amsterdam. i intend to stay 4~6 days. i'm really intrigued by scandinavian design. but looking at modernism in the netherlands would be really interesting too.
i'm going from paris, so there would also be more of a time crunch if were to chose copenhagen (i'm using the eurail).
what was your take?
thanks,
L
@Luke
I would strongly encourage you to explore Copenhagen. Architecturally it is SO much more exciting and interesting. Let me list a few positives!
1. The city is beautiful.
2. You can actually ENJOY biking around.
3. You're not one of ten zillion tourists.
4. It's not seedy and dirty.
5. The architecture is 100000x better...
...you can find incredible contemporary buildings by BIG, Zaha, Libeskind, Foster, Larsen, Plot Architects, and even Calatrava (by taking a short jaunt to sweden)! If modern is your thing, there's freaking incredible textbook masterpieces like Bagsvaerd and Grundtvig churches to investigate.
Museum-wise... SO much better than Amsterdam. I would highly recommend checking out the Danish Design Center, Danish Architecture Center (Foster + Partner exhibition), the Jewish Museum (Libeskind interior), and the Art Museum (really cool outdoor installations up now).
Also, you should go to the harbor bath for an afternoon dip! Or, hop on the metro and head to Amager beach and chill on this strandbath.
Anyways, if time is still an issue, I'd suggest checking out Rotterdam over Amsterdam. (R'dam is my second fav!)
Yea, I'm biased - but I really felt like Amsterdam was the pits. Go to Copenhagen! If you need any advice or suggestions on where to go, directions, logistical information, or where the best cafes and bars are, hit me up! :D
Have fun!!!
thanks
the wind tells me Copenhagen it is
Hey James,
I go to UC as well and I'm really interested in going to Copenhagen next summer. I'm hoping they have a meeting or something for it when we get back to school next month, but I can't help but think about it already.
Any advice or things I should know?
Thanks!
Yea, there's definitely going to be a meeting, and I'll probably be there to do a quick presentation for you guys about the program and answer any questions you have about preparations and whatnot.
At this stage, though, the only thing that you really might need to be concerned about is traveling plans, tickets, and your passport. I'd start thinking about where you might want to go before and/or after Copenhagen, and then figure out all the logistical stuff. Definitely book a round-trip plane ticket as far in advance as you can, though - that'll save some money.
If you still want to know more about the program or have any more specific questions that you'd like to talk about before the presentation (which I -think- happens this fall quarter), just let me know! =)
