Christmas Break in Nashville: The Gulch,etc...

    ichweiB Jan 10 '07 4

Both my parents and my wife's parents live in Nashville. We both grew up here, so we went back for the break for about a week. I got back to Houston and still had 2 weeks left before classes started so a friend of mine and I decided to drive back as he had never visited before. Here are a few pictures of some of the areas we checked out. The Gulch is a district consisting of warehouses being converted into apartments as well as office spaces. In addition is an area converted into bars/performance space that were once really bad country music wax museums and other crap. The area begins at the end of music row at a newly constructed roundabout.

i live in nashville. there is actually a bunch of interesting architecture coming up around town. i'm very happy about this. next time your in, take yourself over the river and check out east nashville. you can see the new community center coming up on woodland street and a residential project designed by polifilo which is just a few blocks further down. germantown is also becoming a hot spot for modern architecture.

Nashville is interesting and quirky for architecture, we lived there for seven years and had our own firm there. Thanks for the catchup on the Gulch, I was wondering if anyone ever picked up the ball in that area. Be sure and stop in to Manuel Zeitlin's office in Hillsboro Village, he's doing some of the Gulch stuff and has a pretty cool art gallery too. Polifilo is unfortunately defunct but they did a bunch of good stuff both built and unbuilt, check out "The Trace", the bar/restaurant over just off Hillsboro Village, they did that project as well.

      hello

i wanted to let you guys know that polifilo is not defunct, but alive and busy. while the last few years have seen a lot of changes here, we are still located at 1807.5 21st avenue south (above posh...in the village) and would be pleased if you would like to drop in for a visit
