Project 1 Done. Starting competition Thursday

    ichweiB Feb 21 '07 8

Here are some images of the work I completed for our first project. I guess everyone has to design a house in architecture school. I was a little frustrated in regard to the way final requirements are handled: we spend all kinds of time talking and considering the project with rough study models being refined day in and day out, and then at the last minute, we have all this work to do. I wished we had more time to put towards presentation work. So, I did what I could in the time I had:

We start the Steel Museum competition project Thursday. I wish I knew a great deal more about steel. Oh well, I'll do my best.

hahaha... scrolling through I noticed the LTL style renderings too. not a bad thing at all.

I recently spent a class period trying to teach the process to first year undergrad students, would it be possible to get a couple larger sized images to show them?

great images man, congrats. It's refreshing to see presentation drawings that aren't dependent on semi transparent, blurry rhino models or plasma slick 3d max renders.

thanks guys. yeah it is LTL inspired. what can I say? However, they push it here big time. My first year studio prof went to Parson's and was influenced by one of the Lewis brothers(can't remember which one is where) and obviously was influenced by Mark Tsurumaki as well. That same year, Bill Truitt taught us how to do constructed perspectives in a class set up to compliment our studio. It just so happened that this year, Bruce Webb- our studio prof, is from a generation still mystified by the axonemetric and iso drawings and he asked us to use them for this project so I figured it would be a good time to use it.
Anyhow, I prefer to work this way. I did get a copy of LTL's pamphlet architecture Situation Normal... a while back. I guess I've looked at it more than I realize!

I'll get some bigger images up on flickr...

      Hey there Michael.

Good to see you starting to futher exploration with your designs. As I said before, I would try to start looking at at least one detail (floor plate, wall section, conection detail, etc..) very early. I think this could help you completely intergrate your concepts, and try to take at least one of Ronnies' theory courses. Trust me...

I saw the exhibition in the gallery, yours and mabey two others stand out very nicely. I would not worry about the critics of your presentation style, nor the schedule at which the Prof's throw work at you. Keep doing what you are doing, have fun with it and you will be fine. School is the place to challenge yourself as much as possible...

      Good luck!

thanks man. You're right. I need to start doing that. I appreciate your thoughts. Stop by my desk sometime and we can talk again.
