    Frustration, thy name is Mumbai

So this week was spent very irritated at how hard it is to find a good figure ground map of Mumbai. I'm doing a case study on the city for my methods class, and need good city plans to trace its growth. So far all that seems to be available (after scouring both MIT's and Harvard's map collections, stacks, as well as the internet) are maps of bombay without block footprints, or the same map of the same district of bombay over and over again. Its not looking good.

I contacted Rahul Mehrotra to see if he has anything i might use (he has done a lot of work regarding the subject). nothing. I know his studio at GSD is doing some work with Mumbai, and my next step is to see if they might have anything good, and to ask them very nicely about it.

I should have picked Berlin. curses.

Niall Kirkwood (GSD) is also doing a studio in Mumbai, and had his TA (a native Mumbai) gather documentation for him over the summer. You could try hitting that up.

      arjun, go here.

link to amarja chhapwale. her email should be listed. i remember her thesis topic related to mumbai. you should be able to get a figure ground map out of her.

also, the post-grad program at sci-arc (sci-fi) is focusing their studio project on mumbai. you should look into that as well.

it seems everyone is talking about mumbai these days.

any kind of map showing figure ground is what I'm looking for. I know maps like this exist of the former fort area/city core. If you know a resource with digitized plans of the city core, please, let me know.
