    By David Morris

I feel like I've learned so much already after having lived in Barcelona for only four months. I'd like to share some of what I've learned now. But only the most important things. I'll start with tech lingo. This one is quite a doozy, because it follows absolutely no standard whatsoever, and knowledge of how to say a techie term in Spanish can only come from saying it wrong ten times in a row and having everyone look at you like you're an idiot.

    1. dot com = punto com
    2. youtube = yo - ew - too - bay
    3. google = google (but go - oh - gull is also acceptable)
    4. google earth = google airth
    5. giga- = *cough up some phlegm and then say "eegah", but just say it like Jay-z if you're catalan
    6. router = roo - tare
    7. cable = kah - blay
    8. mouse = rah - tone
    9. CD = say - day
    10. DVDs = day - ew - bay - dayz
    11. record a CD = grabar un disco
    12. open ports = abrir puertas
    13. emule = eh - moo - lay
    14. backup = bah - KUP
    15. copy/paste = coh - pee - pah - stay
    16. hatch = ah - chh *breathe out
    17. click = cleek
    18. firefox = phi - air - fokes
    19. wi-fi = wee-fee
    20. network = la red
    21. FTP = effay tay pay
    22. DNS = day innay essay
    23. DWG = day ew bay do blay hay ** or ** day do blay ew bay jay
    24. 3d = trace day
    25. google maps = google mops
    26. polyline = poe lee lee knee ah
    27. google it = BOO skah low in google
    28. ACDSee = ah see dee see (this one always gets me)
    29. 3d Studio Max = three dee studio mox
    30. Viz = beece
    31. Maya = ma Yah
    32. Photoshop = foto chope
    33. database = bah say day dah toace
    34. images = ee mah chase * catalan
    35. system variables = variablayce del entorno
    36. path = poss
    37. password = contra saynyah *or* clah vay *or* poss - war - d
    38. server = servidor
    39. more.

and that's all i can think of for now, but i'm sure i have more somewhere. And the last tip I can offer is:

don't come to Barcelona to learn or practice spanish, especially if you're American.
