    after.class and studio

Well, seems that the "after class" party we threw at college was a success... ppl from both design and architecture schools, ranging from studio 2 to ppl doing their thesis...it was very nice, but guards werent happy at all since we didnt wanted to leave when campus was being closed (we dont have dorms in college). I'd like to point out that in my school most ppl is young since in Chile the university system isnt "college" based like in the US: once you are out of high school, you enter your universsity for your "major" inmediatly. After that, you can get a master or follow the doctorate program (my uni is the only one giving them in Chile).

claudio and soledad with the plastic cups we stole from the supermarket....those were supossed to carry pinneapples, but the ingenious architects found a new use for them

another view from the yard, around 50 ppl hanging out all afternoon
And well, another busy week with studio. Now the teacher loves my project since it's the more "radical" in how the program is based. Boxes floating between two walls, that have the reading rooms inside them, and the books ontop of them..so you only see slabs when looking inside. but it also comes with lots of structural problems that my teacher is trying to help me solve. beams on this boxes should be minimized to keep a clean view from the inside, and also keep it as a tick frame looked from the outside. so he tell s me that instead of what im doing, puting the beam behind the window so its not seen from the outside, put a 20cm beam in the top slab and hang the lower one with steel tensors, which will also modulate the glass (since it's not like "windows", just glass, and the frame is hidden in a small "cantery?" in the slab)... any ideas?

the section of the building, inside the walls, the boxes are just the slabs

my first approarch to boxes detail, but that inverted beam must be eliminated! also i gotta work on the roof drainage
this week will be tuff as i gotta do a 1:100 structure only model of the building, 1:25 detail, and also study a nice system of prefabricated slabs that come in blocks and you get to fill with a small amount of concrete, taking like 1/10 the time that doing it with molds and such, for a housing remodelation i migth do with a friend: we are doing this as an advanced CAD exercise, and the result will be presented to the house owner who commited an architect to do it, but maybe he likes our and construction can be cheaper and he will hire us :). (too much info, and awful redaction...not much sleep this days, and cant drink coffee...but hey, at least my english is good for a nonenglish speaker ;)
