FountainGlen at Jacaranda Senior Housing

Located in the foothill section of Fullerton, this mountain style lodge offers resort-style living for active seniors.  The project achieves its character with the use of rugged fieldstone, siding, exposed trusses and strong gable forms.  Four multifamily buildings provide 131 active seniors units and are placed alongside an outer loop road to form an internal, contiguous, common open space where the clubhouse is situated.   The public amenities and pathways are meant to be resort-like and interactive in nature to promote social interaction and networking amongst its residents.

An irregular shaped and sloping site with a maximum 2-story massing along the perimeter were significant  challenges in the site design of the buildings.  This unique building design also allowed us to accommodate 20’ of fall across the site.  By terracing down, the internal courtyard of the project was able to maintain a two story presence along the perimeter (which tied to the scale of the adjacent homes) while still achieving the number of units needed by the owner.

Due to the irregularly shaped site, we had a very challenging and narrow street frontage.  The leasing building was positioned as the focal point and created a marketing window to the street. This was reinforced with street lights, seating areas and a prominent and inviting 2-story entry at the leasing building.
