Master Thesis

My master thesis was about a renovation project of a school, which is part of a site built at the end of the 80’s in the suburbs of Rome (Tufello district). The whole site was meant to accommodate an education centre consisting of several buildings, each of them hosting a different school, from grade school to high school.
I kept the principles of energetic refurbishment in mind during the design, in order to improve the energy efficiency class of the building. Each classroom would face south, assuring light without overheating the room in summertime and giving enough light and warmth during the mild winters.  The main hall was intended as in-house garden and meeting point where children would be free to play, talk with each other and enjoy the space and sunlight. The roof of the hall was designed in glue-laminated beams and photovoltaic panels, which provided the building with power to make itself sustaining.
Another point worth mentioning is the analysis I performed to verify the orientation of the building and its solar range. I could evaluate the sun exposure of each elevation and could then model the vapour and humidity through the existing and projected walls.
