Newburg School District came to Dake Wells Architecture looking for a solution to a long list of existing building issues. The school did not have a clear main entrance, the cafeteria and kitchen were not adequate to efficiently serve school lunches, and existing plumbing was causing problems every time there was a public event in the school's gym.
We sought to solve many problems with one modest, simple design move. Adding a small addition to establish a clear main entrance also added new restrooms for public use during events. The interior renovation included reorganizing the kitchen to increase efficiency and circulation, an expanded cafeteria, and all new finishes.
I was responsible for developing predesign, programming, collecting existing building conditions, schematic design, construction documents, coordinating with the building committee, and construction administration. All work was overseen by Matt Thornton, AIA, Brandon Dake, AIA, and Andrew Wells, FAIA.
