My name is Alana Burman and I am a recent alumnus from the Teach for America program in the Mississippi Delta after having served my third consecutive year.
I am a highly organized and motivated person, as I had to be to be successful in my three years with Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta. I have been able to balance head coaching athletics of seasonal sports, whose seasons ran into each other, in addition to my daily job of being a classroom educator to 120-90 students, and my volunteer activities. Prior to being with Teach for America in the South, I was a leader within my class at Rutgers University and worked in office environments where I was self led to successfully meet deadlines and other milestones.
I have also developed my own side projects as a freelance graphic designer for both personal and company based clients. I have strong interpersonal skills, which I constantly strive to refine and hone further, which range from the written (emails and presentations) to the spoken (presentations, in person interactions, phone calls). These skills were a necessary component of my success as a technology recruiter with The Princeton Group, where I recruited computer programmers to design automatic trading systems for investment banks and hedgefunds.
I am also comfortable on a variety of important software such as the Adobe Suite (which I use for both my freelance work and my personal artwork on a regular basis), the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as AutoCAD (which I was trained on at Rutgers with a 3-D Design and Animation Course).
