What unites Gulf countries: Kuwait pavilion at Venice’s Biennale

What unites Gulf countries is the ocean and with it its countless islands, so the Kuwait pavilion which is being prepared for this year’s Venice Biennale is about them. Specifically, every collaborating architect of the project has been assigned to a Gulf island in which to embody the research. The jointly proposals will make up a collaborative project in order to represent the collective identity of the region.

We have been honored to be invited to be part of this experience along with other local studios such as Behemoth Press, Matteo Mannini Architects, Design Earth, ESAS Architects, X-Architects, PAD10, Fortuné Penniman and Studio Bound.

Entitled ‘Between East and West: A Gulf’ proposed by the pavilion curators, Hamed Bukhamseen and Ali Karimi, the exhibition is a place for reflection in which to assess the potential of a region when it acts together throughout architecture and urbanism, a place of future opportunities under one single plan for the contested although undervalued waters that give name to the entire area and that currently are divided by physical, religious or political reasons.

Our proposal builds upon establishing a set of farms in which organic and construction wastes become inert, creating new constructions that collaborate in the creation of new purified marine environments as well as fertilizers and power cogeneration. It is not therefore a specific project but the practical application an investigation carried out by AGi architects team.

This consideration on recycling and useful life of materials and residues has been chosen by the Kuwait National Council for Culture Arts and Letters, as part of a much broader proposal that works in favor of peace and cooperation at the region.

The Kuwait pavilion, which will keep its doors opened to the public as part of the 15th Architecture Biennalebetween May 28th and November 27th, will be present for the third time in a row at the Venice Biennale and you could visit it at the Arsenale .
