Spring 2009 studio project with professor Ferda Kolatan and partner Kristen Smith at UPenn School of Design. Bloom is a botanical garden in the meat packing district of New York City. Situated by the termination of the recent high line park and behind the proposed downtown Whitney museum. The project juxtaposes this elevated landscape of the high line with a structure that adjusts in scale and density along the length of the site, responding to the biomes held with in. Color treatment of the structure reinforces the gradation of the biomes by emphasizing the colors within the species of plant types on display through contrast and correlation. The result is an infrastructure that is responsive to the needs of plants from the different biomes by mitigating light and water in such a way that reinforces the climatic impact on the morphology of plant life.
