Garden City Apartments challenges existing typologies of housing and public space by rearranging established social hierarchies in the urban environment and within the South Bronx community. The massing counters the city grid, providing multiple access points and chanelling residents and the community through the cultural center into a dynamic public space along the river.
The housing units sit atop the cultural center and contain a series of public courtyards that encourage social interaction between residents. The hybrid building type [mat, tower, and slab] includes three unique unit layouts.
