Exploring the role of theatre in shared social and cultural heritage as a record of collective memory.
This project acts as a piece of theatre, where a cast of characters in their everyday setting of the Welsh Valley town Abertillery construct a narrative out of their memories, and in return, Abertillery once more rings out with the voices of its theatrical past. In space words have a physical reality – they become a sonic architecture. And these spaces of embodied memory become sites of anecdote and remembrance, of opinion and secret, of eulogy and elegy, of epic and myth and of fervour, aspiration, shouting and singing.
