I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with honors, recieving the “Best of Show” award for my senior design thesis, and am looking for full-time employment beginning August 1st. I am eager to continue pushing the boundaries of architecture in cooperation with research and innovation, as part of a collaborative team environment. My involvement with various firms have provided me with a range of knowledge unique to a bachelor’s of architecture graduate, including experience with design development, detailing, and presentation and construction documentation. Working under Marcelo Spina at P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S architects last summer as the project designer for the Keelung Port Terminal Competition, I developed additional skills in taking a lead design role on a project. These included responding creatively to a specific project brief, communicating the design philosophy with a team, and ensuring the rightful pursuit of its development in cooperation with its intent. While my portfolio displays innovation and imagination focused on the scholastic world of architecture, I also recognize the differences between this and practice. I am extremely motivated and interested in learning more through practice, while continually pushing for innovation made most interesting by its relationship with real world constraints including clientele, budget, etc.
P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S Architects, Los Angeles, CA, US, Junior Designer
Initially starting as an intern, I worked with the principal Marcelo Spina to re-design/ build his residential backyard/ patio. A series a concrete slabs were poured that allowed for benches to peel and fold into wooden-slat blanketed benches, which I co-designed and modeled/rendered. I also worked on a competition for the Helsinki Public Library as part of a team of 4, where I co-designed and worked with 3D modeling (both in Maya and Rhino), rendering (Maxwell and Vray), drawing and diagramming (CAD and Illustrator/ In Design). I was hired on for the summer full time as a designer, leading a project for the Keelung Port Terminal Competition, which I led the design and development of with the previously mentioned tools and a team of four.
Asymptote Architecture, New York City, New York, Intern
As part of a "Blind-date" Internship in collaboration with Cal Poly, I was responsible for scripting (via grasshopper) a skin system for a business complex as part of a master plan competition. The skin was developed as a set of iterations considering aperture and varying levels of glazing and opacity that wrapped cylindrical facades. Although brief in nature as it was a designated departure from my senior thesis research and development, I further developed my skills with scripting and patterning for large scale architectural projects.
