Space Center

The project for the new Research Center of Abu Dhabi originated with the aim of creating and integrating units of training and research. In fact, a part of the centre will house a teaching branch of the Turin Polytechnic Institute; while the other part is going to be an operational space centre. A distinctive element is the single shingle which physically and formally connects the two units assuring a milder temperature inside. The incorporation of a large artificial lake in the northern area makes it possible to keep the temperature cool since the passage of the winds from the north would cool down on the water basin and blow towards south at night. The façade is marked by windows and metal shading devices. The role of the antennas, fundamental for the communication between satellites and base, is emphasized by their shape. Their dynamic design resembles a sculptural center piece, fitting for a gateway emblem to the Center.
