L.Karina Urias

San Diego, CA, US

Highly motivated and enthusiastic professional with over 9 years of international architectural experience in small and large scale projects. Effectively coordinated as junior designer, job-captain and design consultant with contractors, engineers and city officials while maintaining an excellent relationship with clients. Experience ranges from retail, public works, community development projects with an emphasis on high end custom residential in the United States, México and Denmark.

Personally focussed on blending culture with nature and humanizing the architectural experience through socially conscious architecture.

"Architecture is an aesthetic, political and social discipline. While living in Europe, I discovered the aesthetic values of sustainable design and adaptive re-use by experiencing how the tangible evidence of the past, enhanced the character of the modern city.  The imperfections and happy accidents that come from generational collaboration create sequences and spaces that are exciting and dynamic. A city of medieval planning, with centuries old vernacular buildings and contemporary facades, coexisting harmoniously on the same city block." -LKU

APX Medal, Award

The Fraternity provides the medal to selected schools of architecture throughout the country to be awarded to the graduating senior who has shown an affinity for leadership, performed willing service for the school or department, and gives promise of real professional merit through his or her attitude and personality. The Alpha Rho Chi Medal is awarded annually to graduating seniors at accredited schools of architecture in the United States and Canada and at schools with an active chapter of Alpha Rho Chi Fraternity, and is judged by the faculty of that school of architecture as best exemplifying these qualities.
The members of Alpha Rho Chi firmly believe strong leaders are just as essential as strong designers to the architectural professions. It is vital to our efforts to produce individuals committed to public service, as well as individuals committed to maintaining Architecture and the Allied Arts as noble professions. We also assert that high scholastic achievement is not necessarily an accurate measure of leadership or service. The Alpha Rho Chi Medal commends those students who show true professional merit beyond the design studio and their academic career.
